A gentle guide

How the practice
works

Grace & Gentleness is designed to meet you where you are โ€” not where you think you should be. Here is everything you need to know to begin.

๐ŸŒฟ

The daily tracker

Each day, you are presented with a list of 15 gentle practices rooted in the Fruits of the Spirit. These are your default habits โ€” a carefully chosen set of daily acts that support nervous system regulation, spiritual growth, and overall wellbeing.

The one-habit rule: All you need to do is complete at least one habit to count the day as active. That is it. One checkbox. One small act of care for yourself. That is enough to keep your streak alive and your practice moving forward.

Of course, you are warmly encouraged to do as many as feel right on any given day. The more consistently you tend to these practices, the more naturally they become part of who you are โ€” not tasks to complete, but expressions of the person you are growing into.

Make it your own

The 15 default habits are a starting point, not a prescription. You can add your own practices, remove ones that do not resonate right now, or rename any habit to match how it feels in your own language. Your tracker is yours.

You can also filter your habits by Fruit of the Spirit โ€” so if you want to focus a season on cultivating peace, you can view only the habits mapped to that fruit and give them extra attention. Or switch to the D.O.S.E. filter to see your habits through the lens of the four brain chemicals that support happiness and wellbeing.

The D.O.S.E. filter

Science and scripture agree on something beautiful: the way we are made, we are wired for joy. The four main brain chemicals that contribute to happiness, satisfaction, and wellbeing are Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphin โ€” together abbreviated as D.O.S.E. Each of the 15 default habits is mapped to the chemical it most naturally supports.

What each chemical does
๐ŸŽฏ

Dopamine

Motivation & reward โ€” the drive to create, complete, and achieve. Triggered by finishing tasks, making things, and learning.

๐Ÿค

Oxytocin

Connection & trust โ€” released through touch, warmth, and closeness. Triggered by reaching out, caring for yourself, and being with others.

โ˜€๏ธ

Serotonin

Calm & contentment โ€” the steady feeling of being at peace in your body. Triggered by sunlight, stillness, rest, and hydration.

๐Ÿƒ

Endorphin

Relief & euphoria โ€” released through physical movement and effort. Triggered by stretching, jumping, dancing, or any form of joyful exertion.

Your tracker sidebar shows a live D.O.S.E. summary each day โ€” four small progress bars that update as you check off habits, so you can see at a glance which chemicals you have nourished and which still have room to grow.

Your streak

Your streak counts the number of consecutive days where you completed at least one habit. It is a gentle measure of consistency โ€” not perfection. Think of it less like a score and more like a rhythm you are building, one day at a time.

Your streak number is displayed prominently at the top of your tracker each day, along with your longest streak ever โ€” a reminder of what you are capable of when you show up for yourself.

Grace days

Life happens. Some days, the practice simply does not happen โ€” and that is okay. Grace & Gentleness is built around the understanding that missing a day or two is not failure. It is human.

If you miss 1 or 2 consecutive days, those days are marked as grace days โ€” shown in a soft warm tone on your calendar rather than breaking your streak entirely. Your streak is preserved, and you will see a gentle reminder: "Return with grace and gentleness. You are still here."

If you miss 3 or more consecutive days, the streak resets โ€” but it does not disappear. Your longest streak is always saved, and you can begin a new one the very next day. Every return is a victory.

"Return with grace and gentleness. You are still here."

The analog gallery

One of the daily habits is making something with your hands โ€” an analog arts & crafts project. The Gallery is a space to share what you create: a painting, a collage, a sketch, a handwritten letter, a song. Original work only.

You can upload a photo of your creation, share a short audio recording of a song, and link to your Instagram or Substack so others can follow more of your work. It is an interpersonal space โ€” a place to offer your creativity and be inspired by what others share, rooted in the scriptural call to encourage one another and build each other up (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Meditation for the Week

The weekly memory verse & daily one-line reflection

At the top of your tracker each week, you will find a curated scripture โ€” a promise, a comfort, a word to carry with you. It rotates every Sunday and is available in five translations so you can read it in the version that speaks most clearly to you.

Beneath each verse is a short reflection question โ€” a single line to sit with, journal about, or simply hold in your heart as you move through the week. Members can write and save their reflection directly in the tracker.

A verse from the collection

โ€œBut those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.โ€

โ€” Isaiah 40:31 NIV
